Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) is the backbone of identity and access management in the Microsoft ecosystem. It controls authentication and authorization for Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, Azure services, business applications, and access policies. Losing this data — or misconfiguring critical security settings — can lead to severe operational and security consequences.
Despite its importance, Microsoft does not provide a native full backup solution for Entra ID. Only a limited subset of objects can be soft‑deleted and restored within 30 days; after that period, they are permanently removed. This means organizations bear full responsibility for safeguarding their identity configurations.
